EADS is a worldwide manufacturer firstly known as the leader on the civil aircraft market (Airbus), thanks to its innovation and technology excellence. It is also known as system integrator of large complex systems. EADS is a European based Company with fast increasing revenues and a workforce of 120000 persons worldwide.
EADS activities are split into four main business divisions:
- aeronautics
- space
- defence
- security
Aeronautics is mainly predominant in the Airbus Division which is the leader in commercial aircrafts worldwide. Military aircrafts, helicopters, UAVs are also designed and manufactured by the Company.
The Space Division covers mainly launchers, satellites design and manufacturing. Such an example is the Galileo project.
The Defence and Security systems division (DS) covers in particular the Information and (Tele) Communication Technologies for homeland security, societal security and Defence, which are in the Defence Communication Systems Line of Business (DCS - LoB).This LoB provides digital, wired and wireless, fixed and mobile, secured Land Mobile Communications which are the backbone of the homeland security Systems of Systems. This is in line with the Network Centric Operations architecture’s ongoing developments worldwide, with whom EADS is associated.
EADS has large Simulation centres providing the design framework as well as the validation tools and training.
EADS is involved in and leading large multinational research and development projects and standardization in:
- Europe (FP6, CEN, Galileo, GRID …)
- NATO (ACT, NNEC, NII…)
- US (DHS SAFECOM…)
Additionally, EADS is a member and active participant of various standard bodies such as ISO, ETSI, WWRF, MESA etc.
EADS participates in large worldwide consortiums such as the NCOIC (Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium)
EADS is able to progressively network securely land mobile radio, UAVs, aircrafts, and satellites. The Network Centric model where information is available everywhere at the right time, to the right international - multi organisation / person is the ultimate goal.
